OHIO IS NOT A RED STATE, IT’S A RIGGED STATE

For decades now, politicians have rigged our district maps to preserve their political power. They’ve drawn the lines so they can’t lose elections. This lets them ignore the needs of our communities. Equal Districts means all candidates start off on equal footing. Everyone starts with an actual shot to win.

Equal Districts also means every person’s vote holds equal weight. Every vote should have the potential to change the outcome of an election.

The Equal Districts Coalition is a unified group of prominent Ohio advocacy organizations working to make sure our government works for all of us. No exceptions.

OUR GOAL

To secure fair district maps that will give Ohio voters power over their elected officials.

  1. The number of Democratic-leaning and Republican-leaning districts should match the actual political breakdown of voters in the state.

  2. No one should split up our communities to support their own political interests.

  3. District maps should properly represent marginalized communities, such as Black persons, persons of color, immigrant populations, young Ohioans, and low-income Ohioans.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY “EQUAL DISTRICTS”?

Equal districts means all candidates for office start out on even footing.
Every candidate would begin with a legitimate chance to win.

Equal districts also means every person’s vote holds equal weight.
We should all have the power to vote politicians out of office when they don't serve us well.
